B&CE, the workplace pension provider to 1.6 million people in the UK, was last night named ‘Pension Scheme of the Year’ at the Financial News Awards for Excellence in Institutional Pensions UK 2012

This caps a successful six months for B&CE following the launch of The People’s Pension in November last year.

The nominations are voted upon by a panel of 50 anonymous industry professional as judges – mainly consultants, asset managers and pension fund peers. B&CE fought off stiff competition to take the accolade.

Commenting on our win, Mark Cobley, Pensions Editor at Financial News, said:

“We put B&CE forward for this award because we felt they deserved recognition for coming out on the front-foot ahead of the government’s introduction of auto-enrolment, and becoming an active participant in the public and political debate. Their People’s Pension product shows it’s possible to design a simple, low-cost savings tool for below-average earners, a group that has been too-often overlooked by the UK’s pension system.”

Patrick Heath-Lay, Director of Finance and Strategic Solutions and incoming CEO from October this year, was there to collect the award at the Pension Fund Dinner that took place at the Langham hotel, London, and commented:

“I would like to thank Financial News and the panel of judges – we are delighted to have won  this award which we believe affirms the work we have done historically in this arena and the strength of our pension scheme offering through The People’s Pension.”
