The Mowlem Award

Are you part of an organisation running a project to deliver great training that will promote health and safety in construction? You could apply for the Mowlem Award 2022 and your chance to win a £20,000 grant. Applications will open in September 2022.

About the Mowlem Award

Our Mowlem Award is an annual £20,000 grant given to organisations that can demonstrate they will make a real difference towards training and the promotion of health and safety in construction. Launched in 2015, the Mowlem Award furthers the work of the RI Beck Trust – a charity set up in 1983 by the construction company, Mowlem.

Applications for the Mowlem Award 2021 are now closed, but if you’d be interested in applying for the Mowlem Award 2022, here’s some useful information.

How to apply

Applications for the award must come from UK-based non-government training organisations.

Your project must also fulfil the following criteria:

  • make a significant difference to the construction industry
  • benefit a minimum of 50 individuals within the year
  • provide a recognised construction industry accreditation
  • offer training that’s linked to an employer or placement to gain hands-on experience and the ability to find future employment

Previous Mowlem Award winners

In previous years, the Mowlem Award has been granted to a range of organisations of different sizes, in different locations, with different purposes. Read the case studies below to explore some of the fantastic causes the funding has helped.

Introducing our 2020 Mowlem Award winner

EN:Able Communities will use the Mowlem Award grant money to deliver entry-level remote construction training to 121 young people and those wishing to change careers across Yorkshire and Humber – an area with high youth unemployment. The initiative aims to give these young people the recognised industry skills to gain a Construction Skills Certification scheme card, which will allow them to find work on construction sites.

In 2020, we received our highest number of Mowlem Award applications ever. With so many worthy causes to choose from, we gave ‘highly commended’ awards to 2 other organisations. A B&CE Charitable Trust first! These were won by Bounce Back and St Mungo’s – who both received smaller grants to help towards their proposals.
