The Mowlem Award terms and conditions

Applications for the Mowlem Award 2021 opened on Thursday 2 September 2021 and will close on Friday 8 October 2021 at 5pm.

The B&CE Charitable Trust is looking to award £20,000 to an organisation that aims to deliver training, and/or promotes health and safety in construction. Our panel of trustees will consider entries following the closing date for applications, which is Friday 8 October 2021 at 5pm.

Trustees will be looking for applications that make a significant difference to the construction industry. The application must:

  • benefit a minimum of 50 individuals within the year
  • provide recognised industry accreditations
  • offer training that’s linked to an employer or placement to gain hands-on experience and the ability to find future employment
  • be from a UK based non-government organisation who offer training that deliver a project that makes a significant difference to the construction industry.

Organisations interested in applying for the award can visit The Mowlem Award web page and apply by Friday 8 October 2021.

The process

  1. Read the criteria for the award before applying to make sure your organisation/project qualifies.
  2. Read our handy checklist, to make sure you’ve everything ready before you apply.
  3. Complete the online application form. It’s not possible to save the application as you go, so make sure you have all the information to hand before you start.

Once we’ve received your application, you’ll receive an email confirming your entry has been received prior to the closing date.

Following the closing date, we’ll review and shortlist the applications. Qualifying applications will be judged by our Trustee Board.

All applicants will be emailed following the decision, to let them know if their application was successful or not.

The successful application will be asked to complete a ‘Grant offer acceptance form’. This explains that projects must be delivered as detailed in the original application, and for which a grant has been approved.

What’s expected of you as a B&CE Charitable Trust grantee

Changes to the Project

Inform B&CE Charitable Trust in writing of any changes to the original application including timescales, (projects must commence within 6 months of the Grant Offer), budget allocation, activities, staff, target audience or anticipated reach.


You’re expected to send all resources, publications, presentations and visual displays to B&CE Charitable Trust for approval before use.

You should make sure all resources and communications acknowledge the support of B&CE Charitable Trust using the wording: “Project funded thanks to a B&CE Charitable Trust Grant”. This includes but isn’t limited to publications, presentations, visual displays, social media and websites that relate to or result from the project.

You should notify B&CE Charitable Trust in advance of any photo opportunities, key dates, events, interviews or publications in relation to the project.

You agree to provide quotes and/or photographs and/or videos for the project funded by the grant that B&CE Charitable Trust can use in any promotional material. You will need to sign our media consent form.

Data protection

“Data Protection Legislation” means all laws, regulations, legislative and regulatory requirements and codes of practice applicable to the Processing of Personal Data. This includes the (a) Data Protection Act 2018 and any associated regulations or instruments (the “DPA”), and (b) Regulation (EU) 2016/679 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 27 April 2016 on the protection of natural persons, with regard to the processing of personal data and on the free movement of such data and repealing EU Directive 95/46/EC (the “GDPR”) and any UK implementation of the GDPR applicable in force from time to time.

“Personal data” means any personal data that is processed under these terms and conditions; and the terms “controller”, “personal data”, “processing” and shall all have the meanings given to those terms under applicable Data Protection Legislation.

The Trustee Board and Applicant will each remain a controller in respect of the personal data and shall independently determine the purposes and means of such processing. They shall observe all applicable requirements of Data Protection Legislation in relation to its processing of the personal data.

The Trustee Board shall process personal data obtained from the Applicant in accordance with its privacy policy. For more information on Trustee Boards’ collection, use, disclosure, retention and protection of personal data, please visit the B&CE Privacy Policy.

You should check photos taken for marketing purposes have signed consent for each person featured in the picture. Signed consent forms must be sent electronically to B&CE Charitable Trust with the photos.

Funder engagement

You’re expected to agree a date that a B&CE Charitable Trust representative can come and visit your project to meet key staff, speak to participants and see the project in action.


Interim Report – using the reporting template provided, provide an interim report detailing performance to date.

Final Report – provide a comprehensive end of project report. This should clearly show how you have fulfilled the project aims detailed in your Grant application form and demonstrate the impact and outcomes.

Other matters

A person who is not a party to these terms and conditions may not enforce any of the terms under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Act 1999.

The interpretation, construction and effect of these terms and conditions shall be governed and construed in all respects, and in accordance with the Laws of England and Wales. The parties hereby submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
