There have been calls (including from our own Director of Policy and Market Engagement, Darren Philp), for a ‘Pension Dashboard’ – an online portal that would allow you to check all of your pension savings in one place via a log-in.

So we wanted to explore the public’s behaviours around reviewing their pension savings and the levels of support there would be for the idea of a dashboard.

The research

B&CE, provider of The People’s Pension, conducted an online survey via the YouGov general public omnibus, a panel representative of the GB population. The fieldwork took place on 11 and 12 March 2015 with the questions directed at jobholders and jobseekers aged 65 and under. In total, 1,370 responses were collected.

The survey asked respondents about:

  • their current pension provision
  • their current understanding of their pension provision
  • their attitudes towards a single online hub collating information on their savings.

The findings of this research support the idea that there is a need and demand for a Pension Dashboard. For example, we found that:

  • three in five (59%) people don’t know how much they have in their pension savings
  • a quarter (25%) of working-age people with a pension have never checked their savings
  • over three quarters (77%) supported the idea of a Pension Dashboard, where they could see all their pension savings online in the same place, including their state pension.
